1841-93 Covers comprising 1841 1d Mulready lettersheet with Scottish Provident advert, posted from Dundee to Glasgow, 1840-41 entires bearing 1d blacks (both four margins, one crossed by a heavy file fold), and three 1893 covers posted within Manchester all franked by 1/2d orange and a bisected 1d lilac all accepted as being paid at the 1d letter rate. Joseph Ady. 1828-46 Entire letters from the notorious fraudster Joseph Ady, the first handwritten, the other two printed, also a letter from James Ames (possibly a pseudonym for Ady) requesting a pension payment. Ady£s activities led to a change in the law, making it an offence to refuse to pay postage due charges on unpaid mail that was undelivered and returned to the sender. (4).
