 Lot 22 - antarctica 1901-04 discovery expedition - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1903 (Dec 26) Christchurch Weekly Press postcard depicting "The Discovery, Kaiapoi Maoris Song of Welcome" on the front and "The Discovery Penguins" on the reverse, written by Len Burgess, a crew member on the Second Relief Expedition ship "Morning", to Master Leonard Storey in Christchurch. Written from the Ross Sea with the message "I should like you to be hear now we are punching into the ice, it is just like thunder going off", posted three days after the ship returned to Lyttelton, with a N.Z 1d tied by Lyttelton squared circle (April 4), and a Christchurch arrival c.d.s. Written on the day the ship reached the ice at McMurdo Sound with the message "We can now see the Discoverys masts. Capt. Scott is on the ice waiting to come on board as soon as we get made fast. Lot 18 - antarctica 1901-04 discovery expedition - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1901 Wrench’s ‘Links of Empire’ British National Antarctic Expedition postcard No. 2 with Cape 1d cancelled at Cape Town (Oct 7) and postcard No. 3 with N.Z 1d cancelled at Lyttelton (Dec 24) both with the usual "ANTARCTIC / EXPDN / 1901 / S.S DISCOVERY" cachets on the front, both addressed to Karachi, India, with arrival datestamps of Tuticorin and Karachi. Card 2 also with a Durban c.d.s and card 3 with Christchurch and Colombo datestamps. Both cards with corner wear resulting in slightly rounded and creased corners, nevertheless an exceptional destination; most of these cards were sent to Britain and these are the first cards to India we have recorded.  Lot 25 - antarctica 1901-04 discovery expedition - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1904 (May 9) Canterbury Times second series postcard depicting "Discovery in Winter Quarters" sent to Leonard Storey in Christchurch by Leonard Burgess, a crew member on the "Morning", bearing a N.Z 1d tied by Lyttelton squared circle. The short message is headed from H.M.S "Morning", and was written five weeks after the ship’s return from the Antarctic; a month later the "Morning" left New Zealand for England via the Falkland Islands. A rare use of a Canterbury Times postcard by a crew member from the Antarctic Expedition. Photo on Page 7.  Lot 26 - antarctica 1901-04 discovery expedition - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1904 "Weeks Ltd" picture postcard illustrating the route taken from England to the Antarctic by the "Discovery" and "Morning" during the 1901-04 Antarctic Expedition, franked N.Z 1d booklet stamp tied by Lyttelton squared circle of 1st April, the day the two ships arrived back in New Zealand, signed by W. Colbeck, Captain of the "Morning". Addressed to J.J Kinsey, agent for the 1901-04, 1908-09 and 1910-13 Scott and Shackleton Antarctic Expeditions, in Christchurch with an arrival datestamp. Kinsey has subsequently applied a King Edward VII Land 1d and tied it by the "BRIT. ANTARCTIC EXPD / N.Z" c.d.s of MR 4 09 (the day "Nimrod" sailed back past Cape Royds and the final day of use of the 1908-09 Expedition c.d.s), and two Victoria Land 1d stamps each tied by the same Antarctic Expd. c.d.s for 9 FE 11 (when the "Terra Nova" was at Cape Evans) or 31 JA 12 (when the ship was in pack ice, en route from Robertson Bay to Cape Evans). Lot 21 - antarctica 1901-04 discovery expedition - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1903 Cover with "DISCOVERY ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1901" crest depicting a penguin on the flap, written by Captain Scott and addressed in his handwriting to his sister Miss Scott in London, carried from the Antarctic by the S.Y "Morning" and posted upon its arrival at Lyttelton (March 25) franked by N.Z 1d, also bearing the very scarce blue vignette "NATIONAL ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION" with "DISCOVERY" written upon it in manuscript, backstamped at Christchurch.
