1861, 21 My: registered PD envelope from IPSWICH addressed for Brione, Switzerland, franked with 2x 1 Sh violet, 3 d brown and (6d) olive-yellow "registered", all stamps slightly off centered, but with general neat perforation, affixed slightly overlapping, tied by tow strikes of two liner "REGISTERED IPSWICH", black French transit "23 AOUT 61" and red oval PD, red one line CHARGE, red "Crown Registered" and red "REGISTERED AU 61 LONDON" on front. Backstamped "IPSWICH MY 21 1861 QUEENSLAND" and "BRISBANE MY 22 1861 QUEENSLAND", a third strike of "REGISTERED IPSWICH" and "LOCARNO 25 AOUT 61" transit. An illegile arrival mark complete this letter. Some stains and tears but in general appeaing condition.

Rare - this pair was prepared in 1903 to comply with the new basic Telegram rate of 9 d. but rejected in favour of the uniform 9 d. brown & ultramarine proposed by Postmaster General Drake which only Queensland and New South Wales were to adopt.rnProvenance: Collection Col.
