Lot 724 - GERMAN COLONIES German South-West Africa Flight Covers - Cherrystone Auctions Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World1914 (19 May) 5pf stationery card addressed to Windhuk, cancelled by "Karibib/(Deutsch-/Sudwestafrika)" cds, with well struck three-line blue "Erste Flugpost/Swakopmund-Karibib-Windhuk/Deutschsudwestafrika" handstamp alongside, endorsed "Luftpost." A very rare pioneer flight card in excellent condition, v.f. It was carried on the third stage of the first Swakopmund-Windhoek flight by the German pilot Buchner, who inaugurated air service from Swakopmund to Windhoek, 18-23 May, 1914, with stops at Usakos, Karibib and Okalandja. Due to bad weather, Buchner was delayed in Karibib until 22 May.
