Corbitts Sale #163 - Day 1
Our latest auction (Sale 163) was initially scheduled for May and then postponed owing to the pandemic. Now that lockdown has eased we can go ahead with our sale at the Britannia Hotel over two days instead of one which will help us abide by the social distancing rules.
Viewing
We have taken two extra days at the hotel before the auction for viewing, which again will help with social distancing; we would recommend this as the best option.
If you wish to view the auction lots at our Newcastle offices you can do so from Monday 10th to Friday 21st August (weekdays) by appointment only.
Please ensure you bring a face mask/covering with you. Gloves will be provided and these must be worn at all times during viewing.
Attending the sale
If you are attending the auction in person, face masks/coverings must be worn.
When planning your journey, please bear in mind this sale is live on the internet and we generally achieve a rate of 200 lots per hour.
If you are feeling anxious about attending the sale, you can, as always, send your bids by post or email before the sale to be added to the book or you can bid live through Easylive Auctions. Easylive offer a great option of a £3 flat fee, which allows you to bid on as many lots as you like with no other charges.
Bidding
Unfortunately we will be unable to offer our usual room bidder (boxed) lots which always prove to be popular with many of you.
The auction room numbers will be limited (maximum of 30 people). Therefore, we ask that bidders move in and out of the room accordingly. We understand customers may wish to bid on multiple lots but if there is a space between your lot numbers please leave the room until ready to bid again.
Refreshments
Owing to regulations we are unable to provide our usual tea/coffee and sandwiches. However, customers can order from the main reception area of the hotel.

1859 3d blue, Perf 14 strip of three (first is creased), light cancels, SG.10.
Lot #722 - natal
1859-63 U accumulation mounted on three pages with Perf 14 (rough perf), Perf 13 & 12½ all represented, also a cover front with a 1d.
Lot #723 - natal
1862 No Wmk 1d (2), 1863-65 CC 1d (2) & 6d (2) shades, 1867 1s green, unused or with large part gum, 1s (original gum), SG.18/25, Cat. £1000.
Lot #724 - natal
1863 cover to Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire, with a pair of 6d grey, rough perf, cancelled circular 31 IV. A 'Paid/Devonport/Cape Packet/25.SP.63' d/stamp is on the front of the cover, London & York SP.26.63 cancels on the back.
Lot #725 - natal
1873 1d bright red (4), 3d bright blue (4) & 6d mauve (3), mainly FU, SG.60/62.
Lot #726 - natal
1874 1d rose (2) both cancelled '2' of Durban & '15' of Escourt, SG.65.
Lot #727 - natal
1875 cover to England with 1s purple brown overprinted 'POSTAGE' vertically (SG.63) tied by a barred '4' cancel with a No. 4 P.O. 29.3.1875 'shield' cancel at the lower left. No. 4 was allocated to Umhlali. Plymouth MY 6, Huddersfield and Slaithwaite MY.7.75 b/stamps. Cover faults but an uncommon stamp on cover.

1876 1d yellow, M (large part o.g but with small hinge remainder) plus a U example, SG.82.
Lot #729 - natal
1877 overprints, four half-penny on 1d yellow M & U, misplaced overprints etc. One Penny on 6d rose, M but only traces of gum, and 1d on 6d violet, three U examples, SG.91/93.
Lot #730 - natal
1895 halfpenny on 6d violet (a study) SG.114, mounted on two pages showing a number of the listed varieties, all except one are M. (17)
