GREAT BRITAIN, ROYAL MAIL, QUEEN VICTORIA, 4 August 1847, An envelope from Queen Victoria in her own hand dated 4 August 1847 to Queen Adelaide. She was married 10 February 1840 to Prince Albert who died 14 August 1861, so this letter is an early scarcer one that does not have the black mourning edges from after his death. Young Queen Victoria portrait. This envelope written in Queen Victoria's own hand in London is unusual not only because it is not a mourning cover but because it was paid at the London General Post Office receiving the Crown PAID stamp for 4 August 1847. Usually adhesive stamps were applied to all Royal Mail. (image available) {C} (Start Price / Minimum Bid = £720.00)
