1922: Provisional Government of Ireland, overprints used with Ireland definitives on cover from Corcaigh (Cork) to Washington, USA, dated 7 May 1923, addressed to Ernest R. Ackerman, House of Representatives, stained and soiled, some minor flaws, however a high franking and scarce mixed use to a noteworthy philatelist. There is a pencil note "arrived May 23" under the backflap.rnNote: Ernest R. Ackerman (1863-1931) was an American Republican Party politician who represented New Jersey's 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1919 to 1931. He was also a famous American philatelist who amassed one of the nation’s greatest philatelic collections during his lifetime. Ackerman built many award-winning exhibits and was well known for his collections of British Guiana and Spain. He was regarded as an expert in the stamps and postal history of the United States.
