BOER WAR 1899-1901 correspondence of envelopes (6) - 5 with copies of the original letters all written and initialled at the lower left corner by Lieutenant General Lord Methuen, the commanding officer of the 1st Division. Includes two written when trying to lift the siege of Kimberley. Methuen had a chequered career during the Boer War being defeated by the Boers at the Battle of Modder River and then again at Magersfontein in 1899 and was captured by De La Rey at Tweebosch in the Western Transvaal in March 1902. Also two envelopes written to his wife at Roberts Heights in 1910 from Durban and 1911 from Kalk Bay. An interesting correspondence.
