When basic letter rate was raised from 1 ½d to 2d on August 4th 1930, the postmaster on the remote Lord Howe Island decided (due to the lack of 2d stamps) to surcharge his stock of 1 ½d stamps. As stated by the postmaster a total number of 270 stamps were surcharged. RR!
