Eros Canada-Liverpool posted in Japan early May 1940, "found dama(ged)" paper seal on reverse. - S.S. Eros was torpedoed by U-48 on June 7, 1940, north of Ireland, and was towed in burning condition to nearby Tory island and beached. Its cargo, including war materiall and mail was salvaged.
