British Occupation. 1878 (July 23) Cover to England bearing G.B 1⁄2d (2) and 2d blue all cancelled by numeral "10" upon receipt at the London Inland Office, with a Portsmouth arrival backstamp (July 23), endorsed "via Austrian Lloyd Steamer", recipients endorsement shows it was from "L. Vassall, July 22nd 1878". Naval records show Leonard Vassall was a midshipman on H.M.S "Invincible" which was at Larnaca July 5th-31st 1878 as part of the Naval Squadron that landed the British troops, which were commanded by Sir Garnet Wolsely. Flap missing with the loss of a small part reverse, otherwise fine and the only recorded cover from the British Occupation of the island in July 1878. With B.P.A Certificate (2010).
