G.B. 1d Black Cover. 1840 (June 11) Entire letter written by Count Davidoff in St. Petersburg, addressed to Edinburgh, posted at Gravesend franked by a 1d black, IG plate 2, four margins, tied by a red Maltese Cross. A rare use of a 1d black on a letter from overseas, undoubtedly one of the earliest Russian letters to bear a postage stamp. Photo on Page 206.
