1883 (Sept 29): Envelope from Varese to Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, bearing a three-colour franking of 1879 Umberto 5 c. green in a horizontal pair, 10 c. carmine and 20 c. orange, tied by '164' barred obliterator with VARESE despatch cds alongside. Reverse with "RIO DE JANEIRO" transit (July 25) cds's. One backflip missing, nevertheless an appealing combination to pay the 40 centesimi 'Voie de Mer' rate to Brasil, in addition to an elusive destination.
