The entire is a two page letter with printed five line heading "Prisoners may write a letter on arrival to their friends, and one other every three months..." and is addressed to the Superintendant of Police in Barnsdale: "Having written...concerning the property that was taken from me on my arrest...I was arrested on 24th January 1871 and received a sentence of 10 years" and the letter is then internally docketed and annotated witth the replies of the Police and stating that the prisoner's propery was sold for £7 8s. 2d.
