1840 May 19th One Penny Letter Sheet from Berwick to London, cancelled by a boldly struck red MC addressed to the Earl of Tankerville at Hanover Sq, obverse bears manuscript endorsement 'Langhorns Letters 1840' & numeral '3' presumably added by the Earl to identify the contents, sender & correspondence sequence, reverse with despatch & receiving d/stamp for 19th & 21st May, some creasing & wear, still rather attractive....

1840 One Penny Envelope sent from London to Warwick cancelled by a red MC, reverse bears despatch c.d.s. for May 7th 1840 (part of the '0' of 1840 just visible) the second day of use, portion of the lower backflap missing.

1840 Two Penny Envelope, VFU example sent from Masham via Bedale and London to Sidmouth, cancelled by two black MC's. Upon arrival the letter was redirected to Exeter, the redirection charge was underpaid with the addition of only one 1d red-brown Pl.17, also tied by a crisp black MC. On arrival the letter was endorsed 'More to Pay' and charged '2'd upon delivery, b/stamped with 'Masham/Penny Post' and Bedale, London, Sidmouth & Exeter c....
