NEW YORK May 9 and FREE to a Jonathan Williams Esq. at Philadelphia, contents are as regarding his vocation as lawyer and a debt, as opposed to being PMG. Free-franking privilege seems to have been quite expansive at this period of time.

1826 Cross Border Cover, London-Liverpool-Boston-St. John N.B. Interesting folded letter bearing "Forwd. by your obedt. Servt Geo B. Brown, Liverpool 27 Jany 1826" on reverse, fine red BOSTON APR 6 MS and matching SHIP, charged manuscript. "37½"(¢) and "Am(erican Postage) 2-4 (+) 1N2 (=) 3N2", "Pr New York" crossed out. Canadian mail was rarely routed via Boston at this date.

A nice round trip at the end of the war.
