Stamps of German New Guinea surcharged 1914 (17 Oct): GRI and Value 4 mm. apart, 3 s. on 3 m. violet-black, Setting 4, position type 1, a used example of good colour with complete full-stop after 'G' of GRI, tied by oval "RABAUL JUN 18 1915 NEW BRITAIN" datestamp (Gibbs type 8) in violet to envelope directed to Sydney. Roughly opened and some toning, nevertheless a rare stamp with just 87 examples of the 3 mark overprinted.
