U.P.U First Day/G.B. 1876 (Jan 1) Cover (with enclosed letter) from London to Menton franked G.B. 21⁄2d rosy mauve plate 2 tied London S.E duplex with Angl. Amb. Calais A (Jan 2) transit c.d.s alongside. France did not join the U.P.U until January 1st 1876; this was therefore the first day of the reduced U.P.U letter rate of 21⁄2d to France. Small tear at upper edge, otherwise fine and scarce. Photo on Page 155.
