1933 (1 June) Attempted Round the World Solo Flight by Jimmy Mattern, who attempted to circle the globe in record time. Leaving New York on 3rd June, he flew nonstop to Jomfruland, Norway. The next stop was Moscow, but he was lost near Anadyr, Siberia and no communication was received for two weeks.
