1939 Imperial Airways Centurion crash at Calcutta, envelope bearing two line 'Salvaged Mail/Ex. Centurion cachet, Australia 1931 reg 'Croydon N.S.W' illustrated first flight cover to England, Military Intelligence cover from Kabul. (3)
Lot #158 - crash covers
1941 cover sent registered to London from Patna, India, (16 MY 41) that was in an unidentified crash. A 'SALVED FROM THE SEA' cachet is on the front of the cover, a block of four 4a & a 1a are on the back. The London arrival date was 10 Aug, so three month transit.
Lot #159 - crash covers
1946 Schipol Airport, Amsterdam. A Douglas DC3 from London to Amsterdam on 14 Nov 1946 arrived at 06.50 in bad weather with poor visibility. After a number of attempts to land, the plane crashed killing all 26 on board. A Dutch explanatory label is affixed along with resealing tape.
