"Interrupted Service" mail to Israel: 15 SEP 1950 reg. AR a/m comm cv ex NYC to TLV, franked $1.55 per period rate (25c airmail + $1.25 reg. fee + 5c avis receipt); carried by TWA flight forced to make unscheduled landing in CAIRO due to engine trouble; here Israel-bound mail seized, censored (opened/resealed using K-Type-C & censor-stamped K-Type-1 [#52]) & confiscated, only released after 5 mths under US & UPU pressure: of 19 bags seized, only US-originated mail known released - here returned undelivered (b/s FEB 23 1951 NY arr. - this only known cv w/'proving date') & resent (b/s 28-2-1951 JAFFA arr.) - this noteworthy as Jaffa never processed ordinary mail until 2 March, hence this + other Jaffa-routed mail only delivered from 2 March; this is only known reg. cv w/US return + Jaffa arr. pmks from flight .
