lot # 157 - great britain postal history Christmas Cancels

Friday Mar 06, 2015 09:00 Europe/London

1903 Picture postcard posted in advance for delivery on Christmas day, bearing KEVII 1/2d tied by "NORWICH / 575" duplex in red with the day and month omitted, the year 03 with the "3" inverted. 28 Towns participated in the Advance Posting scheme in 1903, most being issued with the special oval cancels; however at least two towns, Norwich and Cheltenham, failed to receive these special cancels presumably in error, and therefore used their normal datestamps in red ink with the date omitted on mail posted in advance for Christmas day delivery. Very scarce only about four examples recorded. Photo on Page 24.
Suggested price: £ 350-400
