HORSESHOE ROUTE With Italy entering WWII in June 1940 all routes across the Mediterranean were suspended. African routes were Cairo-Durban & then by ship to UK. Eastern routes to Australia went via Singapore until the fall of Singapore in February 1942. At which point the route stopped at Calcutta.
