PUC £1 upon contemporary Registered London E.C.8 airmail cover posted London 28th May just 18 days after date of issue, received Bremen 29th May 1929 just one day later. Minor crease to upper right of stamp plus tiny red mark just visible upon a perforation at base, otherwise a fine to very fine used £1 PUC bearing well-positioned (framing profile) central oval London Registered date stamp 28th May 1929 cancel. Usually the PUC £1 is found upon an ‘over-size’ cover – this being a modest sized (sender excess postage paid) 160mm x 127mm cover. Note – as the PUC £1 is not tied to cover – it is particularly important that this cover is reverse backstamped by matching identical Registered FENCHURCH ST. cancel, plus BREMEN (Germany) 29th May 1929 circular. Accompanied by Engel 1969 photo-certificate of authenticity. Another PUC £1 upon oversized cover was offered recently by a well-known dealer for circa £1,600. It has been suggested that research of airmail routes to Germany immediately after the PUC Congress would make an interesting study. (image available) (Start Price = £720.00)
