5/- Grey & pale yellow, error WATERMARK SIDEWAYS, showing full 'crown A' (crown to right looking from back), with marginal wmk line & small portions of marginal letters. Superb U appearance with neat 1918 cds, partial telegraph punch extremely well repaired & basically invisible. Excellent centring, perfect perfs & nice colour. ACSC 44d cat $125,000. SG 42ba cat £85,000 = A$150,000. This is the 2nd known example & an important new discovery that was found in Europe this year. (The other known example was in the Arthur Gray collection, & despite having a badly smeared cancel & short perfs sold for US$96,000 in 2007).
