1936 UK-Sydney Airmail franked KGV 1/- & 3d, tied 'London 20 AUG 1936' pmk participant in the famed 'Desert incident' where 'Horsa' on Aug 29, during Imperial Airways flight IE473 (departed Aug 22), overshot Bahrain Aerodrome by 100kms at night, as the airfield lights were not switched on! -pilots becoming lost & making a forced landing in the desert, at Salwa Wells. The aircraft was found 40 hours later, & mail & passengers were flown out by RAF Mail to connect with IE474-75, the service delayed five days. Only 2 covers from this major incident believed recorded to Australia, the other also from GB, Sanford (Air Crash Mail of Imperial Airways & Predecessor Airlines) #360809. Ex Perry. (P)
