In June/July 1943, the French Resistance, or FFI printed this forgery depicting General Charles de Gaulle in profile. The stamps are generally of poor quality printing on poor quality paper. They are commonly known as the “Nice Forgery” (in German, Nizza-Fälschung) after the city of Nice, France. Copies are known to have been used on mail transported within France during 1943-44.
