2d rose-carmine SG 2 fine strip of 3 (margins close to large except at left & top of the first unit where a little shaved) tied to part-entire signed "Lav Glyde" by roller cancel, Adelaide (untidy cds in red at lower-left), to Yorkshire "Per Bosphouis [sic] & Overland", London transit of 6SP6/1855 & very fine 'HALIFAX' arrival cds in blue. Carried per "Bosphorus", departed 24/6/1855; then per P&O; mail arrived 5/9/1855. [This was the last contract sailing of the General Screw Steamship Co, the company being unable to fulfill the contract because its ships were requsitioned for the Crimean War. The sender was Lavington Glyde who arrived in Adelaide in July 1850. By 1857 he was a member of the House of Assembly, holding many important posts including Colonial Treasurer. He speaks of the setting out of a new town named Dulwich - east of Adelaide - & further anticipated subdivisions]
