TEL AVIV - WARSAW GHETTO - TEL AVIV: 1940, Palestine enquiry form, of the War Organisation of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John, Jerusalem, from Elimelech Mendelson of Tel Aviv, to his Father, Issak Hersz Mendelson, Elektoralna 25, Flat 5, Warschau", with "DPO" (Deutsche Post Osten), added below in mss. Message dated December 16,1940: "We are healthy & well … worried about you." The Warsaw Ghetto walls were closed on November 16,1940; hence, this enquiry was written exactly one month later. With International Red Cross Geneva transit hstmp and linear dater January 3,1941 on front. Actually received in the Ghetto, with mss 23 word message (limited message of 25 words maximum was allowed): "Father healthy … we are well … Mother & Goldberg Family well in Bendzin." Message also regards another family member in Lodz. Elektoralna Street was inside the Ghetto walls, northwest to the Ghetto gate in Mierov Street. The form has a two line Polish Red Cross hstmp and Geneva Red Cross hstmp on back and faint hexagonal Palestine censor hstmp at front.
