1864-1913 "The Village (District) Post-Office Markings":
1864-1913 “The Village (District) Post-Office Markings”: Exhibition collection neatly mounted on 64 double pages, showing the Village markings of this period, used principally on cover (over 200), or otherwise on singles (over 150). All the locations other than Port Louis, the capital, are included.

The collection commences with a fine selection of the scarce double-circle markings on stamps between number 1 and 14. From the barred numeral cancels period, the highlight is the only recorded Piton cds together with B32 on a registered cover to France, other key items include barred numeral B34 (Rivière des Anguilles) on cover.

The collection is presented by administrative District, following the railway stations, where many Post Offices were situated. There are over 70 items which are the earliest or latest recorded, with a great many better than Proud.

There are many Registered covers with some Registration marks such as Beau Bassin, rare and unrecorded. Other highlights are Midlands with earliest recorded cds, a rare Clarens card, Chamarel earliest and latest recorded dates, elusive Rivière Sèche items, many scarce locally registered covers, Riche Terre and Terre Rouge earliest recorded dates, an example of a unique St. Pierre mark, and much more. Other scarce villages on cover are Trou aux Biches, Baie du Cap and Grand Bay.

The exhibit ends with the scarcest group; a comprehensive section of Village Pillar Boxes on cover.

A quite exceptional collection which is the result of many years of study and research and impossible to duplicate.
