Following WW II, his 2nd inauguration was the first to be televised nationally. He survived an assassination attempt in 1950 by Puerto Rican nationalists, implemented the Marshall Plan and in 1952 secretly consolidated and empowered the cryptologic elements of the United States by creating the National Security Agency.
