S1E-Ba, Lipman Essay in Blue, color appears distinctly more grayish than the other Lipman essays we have handled, printed advertisement on reverse for "Printers' and Photographers' Card Warehouse" in Philadelphia, dated August 1872 (the full text of which is below), Very Fine and almost certainly unique with this advertisement (USPCC $2,500 for plain back)rnThe text on the reverse of this card reads:rnAs the Post Office Department will be unable to furnish Postal Cards for several months, and as the enclosed are by law allowed to pass through the mails, when printed on the back, as a circular or business card, on the pre-payment of postage by a one cent stamp, your attention is invited to them as a novel, cheap and convenient method of advertising.rnThe Lines upon the face for the address, being covered by copy-right, all other Cards possessing this feature are an infringement. Price, $4.25 per 1000.rnRespectfully yours,rnA.M. Collins, Son & Co.Sale 3053: The Dr. Larry C. Parks Collection of United States Postal Stationery
