lot # 981 - France postal history

Thursday Jun 11, 2020 19:00 America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires

VERY INTERESTING LETTER: Entire letter sent from LE HAVRE to Buenos Aires on 22/JA/1875, franked by Yvert 60C x4, with numeral cancel along Le Havre datestamp. It was endorsed "Par Steamer Tycho Brahé" and it reached the port after the ship had sailed, that is why it received the red "APRES LE DEPART" and "RETOUR A L'ENVOYEUR 6311" markings. Back to the main office of Le Havre, these markings were crossed and the letter was redirected to London to reach the next steamship to Buenos Aires, see London and Paris (blue) transit backstamps. The "P.P." mark applied originally has another overlapping "P.D." applied in the port of Le Havre when it was returned to sender, which were also crossed, and when the letter was sent to London it received another "P.P." Excellent quality, an exceptional piece with great history, for a great collection!
