lot # 1255 - falkland islands/malvinas postal history

Thursday May 30, 2019 19:00 America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires

8 Covers sent from different countries to the Falkland Islands, dispatched soon after the end of the Argentina-Great Britain war over the sovereignty of the islands. As it was usual BEFORE the war, the covers were sent by the postal administrations to Buenos Aires to be redirected to the islands, where they were withheld. Most of the covers have phosphorescent marks of the sorting machines of the Argentine post, and one cover bears the inscriptions "Port Stanley" and "Falkland Islands" crossed out, with the Spanish equivalent of "Puerto Argentino" and "Islas Malvinas Argentina" written on the side. Very interesting lot that shows the difficulties in postal communication that arose after the war, until the British government established new routes (no longer via Buenos Aires) to the islands. Very fine quality, lot of great interest for the especialist!
