1940c.: Essays for a proposed "Map" issue, possibly withdrawn due to WWII, with Essays for 1 fr., 2 fr. and 5 fr. values all in pale and bright carmine-red and the 10 fr. with frame in carmine and vignette in black, all with "ESSAI" at top and 'S. Jean Inv. 1906' at base, printed on white surface glazed card. Some aging on the 1 fr. but a charming and scarce group.
