Auction Series 257-264 in Zurich Day 2

1858 (March 10): ½ peso yellow-buff, a superb four margined example, position 4 on the Transfer block, used on second page of February 1859 letter from Lima to Paris tied by "1-2-3-Lima" dotted handstamp in black. Reverse with British P.O. Callao double arc cds in black and London transit cds in red (April 5) with manuscript '16' (grams). Front with "GB/2F 87½c." accountancy marking in black and charged 24 décimes handstruck on arrival (double rate). The adhesive with a negligible scuff at base of no significance, a truly delightful and rare cover demonstrating a late usage of the ½ peso adhesive.
