Auction Series 257-264 in Zurich Day 1

1893: De La Rue Die Essays (2) for the central circular vignette for the postal stationery envelopes, adhered on two white file cards (71 x 45 mm.), the first Proof marked "A" with Frigate embossed in white on vermilion surround with Flags to left (the chosen design) and second marked "B" with the circular vignette in vermilion with uncleared surround showing Flags to right (accepted) but with the vertical lines at sides of the Frigate which were later removed; both are dated "Nov 27.93" in manuscript. Illustrated in Edition D'Or XLV on page 63. A superb and unique pair, ex the De La Rue archives.
