1865 (April 28): Great Britain 1862 4 d. red, hairlines, a vertical pair with unusual 'dry' printing flaw on lower example, used on 1865 entire letter to Bordeaux endorsed 'p. Southampton' tied by fine strike of the "C28" obliterator in black and by circular 'PD' in red applied in transit in London (July 5). Reverse with double arc 'Monte-Video' datestamp (April 29) and Bordeaux arrival cds. A splendid and extremely rare usage - the 1862 4 d. red is unpriced by Stanley Gibbons used in Montevideo.rnProvenance: Collection Grant Glassco, RL, London, 25-27 Nov 1969, lot 1032; Collection "Windsor", Harmers, New York, 28 Oct 1983, lot 684; Collection André Bollen, DF, Zurich, 29-30 March 1984, lot 11722A; Collection André Bollen, Harmers, London, 22 Sept 1993, lot 759.
