1848: Embossed 10 d. brown, Die 2, a horizontal pair with touched to large margins, used with 1841 2 d. blue pair, pl. 4, lettered SA-SB, on 1852 double letter rate cover to New York endorsed 'pr. Steamer' (carried on the Cunard 'Canada', the letter mentions an enclosure), the 10 d. pair tied by London '17' numeral obliterators and curved PAID in red, the 2 d. pair tied in manuscript ink. Reverse with London despatch cds (Sept 17) and obverse with '10' in red manuscript for double the US inland fee.
