1840/72: South Kensington Exhibition, 1 d. black, lettered IA, pulled from Die II, Plate 27, to display at the Exhibition, printed in grey-black on thick white card paper. After the Exhibition, Perkins Bacon & Co. were allowed to retain the sheet. Upon the liquidation of the Perkins Bacon business, the sheet was sold to Charles Nissen: it is illustrated in the 'British Philatelist' of December 1935 on pages 76 and 77. A splendid example of this rarity with large even margins all round Gi DP36 = £ 2'500. rnrnProvenance: Phillips, London, 19 Feb 1987, lot 500.
