1865: Cover from Beirut to Tolland, CT, USA franked on departure with USA 1861 3 c. dull rose cancelled by pen stroke, mailed at the French P.O. in Beirut (Aug 3) and treated as fully unpaid. Carried on the Cunard Steamer 'Africa' with BOSTON 21 / OR 29 IN US NOTES depreciated currency datestamp of transit (Aug 31) with framed "Br. Service" handstamp in red alongside. Small faults but a most unusual and rare cover.
