1836 (Jan 30): Entire letter from Pondichery to Bordeaux, endorsed "operation Clorinde" and carried on private ship "Mary Ami" , mailed via England (June 10) with framed "INDIA LETTER / PORTSMOUTH" in black (Robertson fig. In3) and rated (for a 20 gram letter) with notation "5/10d." to pay (India Ship 4d. + Portsmouth - London at triple rate 2s. + London-Calais 3s. 6d. = 5/10d.). Struck with circular "Angleterre Par Calais" in red and Bordeaux arrival (June 14) on reverse. A scarce usage.
