Incoming Mail 1847/54: Great Britain embossed 1 s. green used on 1853 entire letter (Aug 15) from London to Capt. Bowers, ADC to the Governor of Mauritius, endorsed "pr. Steamer Queen of the South", tied by London '13' numeral obliterator in black. Struck on arrival with fine oval "PACKET LETTER / MAURITIUS" in black (Oct 17). Fine and most attractive entire.rnNote: The "Queen of the South" was a ship of the General Screw Shipping Co., whose service ran from Plymouth via the Cape to Mauritius.
