1838: Entire letter from Port Louis to London and readdressed to Rome, Italy prepaid "1/7d." in red, struck on despatch with "MAURITIUS / POST OFFICE" despatch cds in red (Aug 3) carried via the Cape with "INDIA LETTER / DEAL" in red on reverse (Robertson fig. In1) and London cds (Dec 1). Manuscript "To be forwarded" and sent on to Rome via Calais and "PONT / BEAUVOISIN" in black with Roma arrival on reverse (Dec 13) and charged '33' bajocchi due to pay. A most unusual destination for early Mauritius mail.
