lot # 147 - brit. colonies Mauritius
1806 (June 25): Napoleonic War, an entire letter from 'Isle de France' (Mauritius) to Bordeaux, avoiding the British Continental blockade and struck with superb "ESPAGNE / PAR BAYONNE" entry marking in black and charged '12' décimes due upon arrival. The letter was probably originally landed at Santander or Bilbao and carried overland to Bayonne (rate 10 sols / 5 décimes) for transfer to the French postal system to Bordeaux (rate 7 décimes).
