1902: De La Rue Proof for the proposed 1 d. postal stationery card attached to DLR Appendix sheet dated "21 March 1902" (the same day the adhesive stamps were approved), with legend "POST CARD / SOUTHERN NIGERIA" with coloured pink wash where the 1 d. indicia would be situated; signed and "Approved" by Sir William Mercer in ink. Sold together with the issued card and another overprinted SPECIMEN in black. The Essay with light vertical crease but exceptional and unique.
