Recess by Perkins Bacon 1855/58: (1 d.) blue on white paper, a horizontal pair and a sheet marginal single example, all with good to large margins all round, used on 1858 cover to Dominca at double rate, tied by "1" numeral obliterator of Bridgetown with manuscript '8' (pence) alongside. Reverse showing single circle (1) cds and double arc "Barbadoes" datestamp (Feb 27) in black with Dominica arrival cds. An unusual double rate franking with one stamp unnecessary - perhaps a Ship Captain's gratuity. A fine and rare cover. Cert. BPA (1967).rnProvenance: Stanley Gibbons, London, 10-11 Sept 1981, lot 86.
