After his success in business, he devoted his time toward advising U.S. Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt on economic matters, and became a philanthropist. A large photo dated 1943, signed and dedicated to Charles Hand, with inscription"What is important is not the first 20%, nor the last 20% - it is the in between 60% that counts"
