Chefoo,. 1877 (8 Dec) Chefoo to England. "Customs Chefoo" origin cds on reverse. Cover 'via Brindisi' franked with French 40c stamp, cancelled by '5104' diamond of dots, with 'Shang-hai, Chine' cds (13 Dec) alongside. Arrived Birmingham (27 Jan 1878). Only 4 covers with Customs Chefoo datestamp prior to the Large Dragon issue were recorded, this is the only one outgoing. Provenance: P.I. Padget.
