Dänemark: 1872 Envelope sent to RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL bearing (1870) bicoloured issue of Denmark 3
1872 Envelope sent to RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL bearing (1870) bicoloured issue of Denmark 3 Sk grey lilac, 4 Sk grey red and 48 Sk brown lilac, in good condition only showing the usual tiny imperfections typical for such an overseas franking. Each stamp tied by three-ring numeral cancel "68" alongside "STEGE 14/12/2 POST" cds, red transit LONDON 17/DE/72 cds and arrival backstamp RIO 26/JAN/73. A very attractive and fine destination rarity. LETTERS FROM SCANDINAVIA TO BRAZIL FRANKED WITH THE FIRST STAMPS DURING THE EARLIEST PERIOD OF THE SKILLING CURRENCY ARE ALL EXTREMELY RARE. It is interesting to note that none are known from Sweden and only two from Norway (catalogued at 90000 NOK). According to the exceptional census by K. Jensen of the Danish covers sent to foreign destinations, ONLY 3 DENMARK COVERS FROM THE SKILLING PERIOD FRANKED AT THE CORRECT RATE ARE KNOWN TO BRAZIL. Certificate Lasse Nielsen, certificate Postiljonen. Ex Dr. Gene Scott Collection.
